No, it's not the "Pimp my Ride" episode where they trick out Mr. Chang's hoopty, but a mobile for Robijn detergent. In the wheels turn real clothes and suds
and water, turna turna. This morning I discovered my favorite shirt was stolen from my
laundry load I dropped off. Two weeks ago they stole six new
blank tshirts, which I was planning to make into cool tees. Perhaps I should invest in one of these vehicles. People will have to
chase after my car like the clothes pilfering pestilent canker-sored loathsome dogs they are in to rob
me of the shirt (that will never again be) off my back. Agency: PPGH/JWT Amsterdam. Via Adhunt.
In the future, every car feature will be famous for 15 seconds. At least in the future-of-the-now envisioned on this VW Passat microsite. It's pretty amazing that eventually this page will be filled up with 120 clever visual puns. Yes, puns in advertising that actually work. Once again, VW performs the incredible. Favorites are #36: blue/red instrument panel, #6: chrome front grill frame and #102: 200 hp turbocharged engine. Spotted at Room 116.
Stay Free! revisited Hummer's "First Day" commercial and even though the spot is old, still got the "heebie jeebies": "...there's the low, soothing modulation of the mother's voice. Couple
that with her appearance -- carefully mussed-up blonde hair, angular
features -- and I can almost detect something Oedipal going on." Right right...but what about the freaky Donnie Darko homage (pictured left)? Compare for yourself.
Hitler grins merrily at a Beetle prototype - a car he originally comissioned VW to make.
Holy shnikies, VW took its $345 million creative business away from Arnold, the car makers agency for ten years, and handed it to golden boy agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky. In a statement, VW EVP Len Hunt said, "Volkswagen needs to take bold steps to turn this business around in the U.S. and Canada...U.S. and Canadian consumers have always had a special relationship with this brand and today they want more from it's more interesting products which we now have and more captivating communications which CP+B will help develop." No conflict of interest here, Bogusky ended the Mini account prior to landing the VW bid. No word on whether this means Jetta ads will cease to be dominated by an overabundance of the color gray.
